STIMULATING Scents....
This is a very exciting topic to me. Did you know that essential oils can be effective in mental stimulation, alertness, and overall general invigoration rather rapidly? Inhalation of essential oils immediately affects your mood and mental state. How so? Studies have been done on truck drivers, testing the usefulness of eucalyptus essential oil for increasing alertness and preventing lethargy. Drivers doing this testing were asked to inhale eucalyptus oil (pure) periodically whenever they felt tired or were feeling not fully aware of their surroundings. It was shown to be more effective than caffeine and other stimulates without their side effects. I use at work a eucalyptus lotion when I feel tired or unfocused, and it is very invigorating. I find often those around me coming to my office for a quick fix from my lotion bottle.
It is interesting to note just how many of the stimulating essential oils are derived from trees. Could this be why at Christmas we love that smell of a fresh evergreen tree? Or when you drive by a wooded area that has freshly cut pine trees it sends a smell of invigoration through your body. Essential oils such as eucalyptus, cypress, pine, cedarwood, spruce, and juniper all possess stimulating effects.
One of my favorite mixtures is list below. It is a great foot bath ...
2 drops Pine essential oil
2 drops Rosemary essential oil
1 drop Clary sage essential oil
1 drop Peppermint essential oil
2 tablespoons of bath salts
Mix all in a basin. Cool water is wonderful....so sit back and enjoy the aroma and let the oils do their work -- energizing will be on its way to you! But don't let it end here....find the oils that attract your attention!
